May 20, 1932 – Jan. 18, 2015
Verlin was born in Ritzville WA. The first of four children of Martin and Esther Elliott, Vern graduated from Ritzville High School in 1950, where he was a standout athlete in football, basketball, baseball and track. Vern was offered a football scholarship to UCLA and also played basketball against the Harlem globetrotters. He served in the Air Force based in Mississippi and California. In 1952 he married his longtime girlfriend Georgia Kappel. Upon completion of his air force service Vern attended the Univ. of W., graduating with a BA in Business.
Vern and Georgia moved to Everett in 1958, where they continued to live throughout their lives. Vern was well known in the Everett business community. He worked for many years in the stock brokerage industry and retired from Dain Bosworth at the age of 62. He became a regional vice president and took great pride in his long standing client relationships. He served on the board of Everett General Hospital as well as The Everett Golf and Country Club. Vern was known for his kindness, his professionalism and intelligence.
In his leisure time Vern could be found on the golf course, always looking to improve on his already low handicap. He made lifelong friends that he cherished and in later years scoring below his age on several occasions was a particular highlight. It brought him great joy that he passed down an excellent golf swing to all three of his granddaughters.
Vern was preceded in death by his loving wife Georgia, his brother Gary Elliott and his sister Julie Brown.
He is survived by his sister Marin Foole of Lind, WA. His son and daughter-in-law Reid and Pam Elliott of Snohomish, WA, his daughter and son-in-law Leigh and Jane Curry of West Trenton, NJ, and his beloved granddaughters Gracie, Arleigh and Ashleigh.
Vern’s family would like to thank the caring staff at Providence hospital, floor 10, as well as Evergreen Hospice. We would also like to thank his many friends who were an unlimited source of support during Vern’s final days.
An announcement of services will be made at a later date.
