She was born Wanda Rae Ashton, on April 11, 1938, in Del Norte, CO, and moved in 1942 to Reno, NV. She graduated from Reno High in 1956. She was introduced to her husband, Charles Newcombe, also from Nevada, in the fall of 1957. The couple married in Reno on May 9, 1958.
They moved first to California and then to Washington State as their family grew.
She was a loving stay at home mom and also found the time to volunteer with many youth activities in the communities where they lived and at the schools her children attended. While living in Everett, she served as a leader in Cub Scouts and Campfire Girls, including roles as chairman of leaders groups.
In 1979, Wanda graduated from Everett Community College and began work as a Registered Nurse – a career she had deferred to raise her family. She worked for many years in primary care nursing, which was her calling.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, James E. Ashton, of Colorado, and Rosalie O. Webster of Everett.
She is survived by her husband, Charles “Bish” Newcombe, three children; Victoria Hill, Chuck Newcombe, and Teddi (Sean) Callahan. She was grandmother to eight; Josh, Alissa and April Hill, Benjamin (Becky), Robert (Andrea), and Jacqueline Callahan, and Benjamin and Brittney Newcombe. Wanda also enjoyed her six great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Floral Hall in Forest Park (Everett) on June 29, 2012 at 4:00 PM.
The family suggests donations in lieu of flowers to Campfire, Providence Hospice, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Arrangements by Purdy and Walters with Cassidy.
