OBITUARY

Christopher James Phelan

July 7, 1971May 1, 2020

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Christopher J. Phelan. Chris, 48, passed away on May 1, 2020. He was born on July 7, 1971 in Hinsdale, IL. His father Jim Phelan preceded him in death. Left to cherish his memory are his mother Karen Phelan, his 2 children Robert and Ryleigh Phelan, his sister Heather (Russ) Shust, his nephew Isaac Shust, his companion Erynn Racky and many other family and friends.

Chris had a great affection for nostalgia. He passionately loved music and all things weather. Chris was our very own meteorologist. He always had a joke to share and loved to make people laugh. Chris’ smile revealed his beautiful soul.

A Memorial Service is being planned for the summer of 2020 and will be announced at a later date.

I met Chris through another one of my employees about 6 years ago. I hired him to help our swimming pool company. After about 2 minutes of speaking with him I felt like I had know him since we were about 6 years old. Chris was my age so we had a lot in common. Nobody on this earth made me laugh as hard as Chris did. He always was looking out for me and my company. He really truly cared about making the business run more efficiently and working to support his beautiful daughter and Erynn his Fiancé. He would always invite me over for his amazing St. Patty’s day feast which was The absolute best meal of my lifetime. I still cannot believe he is gone but I’m sure he is looking down from Heaven hoping we will stop gushing over him and smiling. He always had a grin from ear to ear and I can’t wait to laugh with him again one day soon.

Chris and I have always been friends; as nearly all who have ever met him can claim. He was always open, welcoming and kind to everyone along his road and it never mattered at what point you met him in life; it was just that you were with him from then on. I spoke with him back in December and I am grateful to have had the chance to catch up with him; if only on the phone. Were I to give consideration to how I would wish to treat those around me, I would readily cite how Chris treated others. His spirit, through others in any simple act of kindness, will live on forever. Though I will miss him and our late night calls as were our habit, I know he has only gone on ahead.

See you later, buddy. I'll be along eventually.

You gave me your friendship when I first arrived to Hinsdale Junior High and I was scared to death because I came from St. Isaac Jogues. We became good friends through shop class, science, and social studies. You were 100% genuine and that's why I always considered you my friend throughout high school. It was that smile that I cannot forget and our talks whenever we had a chance. Rest in peace brother, party with your pops, and say "hi" to mine.

Phelan, there are so many memories we shared and I am keeping them close to my heart. I’m so sad you are gone so early in our lives. I’m still pretty speechless, my friend which we know is unusual for me. I pray God watches over your kids and you have peace for eternity.
Love,
Michelle

I saw you when you a newborn baby and then we all drifted apart as we raised families. But when I found you later many yrs later I was looking for your Mother a good friend of mine, when I reached out to you and spoke to you it was as if you knew me my whole life, such a sweet young man. You knew all about me from your Mother, it meant so much to me that your parents spoke of me
My heart aches for all of you

Phelan hung around my house, for several years when I was growing up. He used to go to Grateful Dead shows with my sister Christine. What I remember about Phelan is that he always had an easy smile and a wonderful laugh. Also, he was impossible not to like. We are all saddened to hear of his passing. Sending his family condolences during this difficult time. Much love-Carrie Hansen
