Play Tribute Movie

Dorothy nee Kruger Whealan passed on January 23, 2020 after a full life.

Wife of Emmett Whealan, Mother of Barbara Dobney, Kelly (Brent) George, Kerry (Doug) Dowling, Patrick (Natalie) Whealan, late Edward Whealan, and Erin (Richard) Whealan Mayorga. Big Mama to Dion, Scott, Chris, Riley, Emmett, Caitlin, Kiernan, Brennan, Ryan, Eddie, Jake, Miles, & Sydney.

A master of three point pivots, doubles, and finales, Dorothy was a lifelong fashion model who knew everyone in the industry and the greater Chicago area that either sold, wore, tailored, or looked at clothes with appreciation. There isn’t a runway around that her high heels did not grace. She had a passion for movies that extended into multiple extra roles sans nominations.

A dedicated member of Service Club of Chicago, Beverly CC, Ridge CC, Sam’s and Costco. Also a devoted member of multiple frequent flyer associations, hotel chains, and player’s club memberships at casinos across the country.

Always a willing participant for mischief and fun: the stories are all true.

Erin and Family,
So sorry to hear about the loss of your beautiful mother. She always brightened the runway at Marshall Fields' fashion events
and kept us laughing backstage. Heaven now has someone extra special walking their runway with Dorothy's smile and twinkling eyes catching everyone's attention. May you feel the warmth of heavenly hugs during your time of sorrow.

The Baffoe and Whalen kids shared fun times in the hood. I was one of the 'older' Baffoes and knew Dorothy from her modeling gigs with Jean McCarthy and Carol Vining. Those ladies all knew how to have a good time. My guess is that are frolicking among the clouds right now. My sympathies to all who go on without her.

She was truly my guardian angel . I met her in 2005 at the Palm Court at the Drake . After a brief conversation , I heard back from her 2 weeks later and we were friends ever since . She took me under her wing and introduced me to every Chicagoan I know .

She always said , the conversation we had that particular day made her my friend . She appreciated love , honesty and kindness . I remember telling her that I would have to work very hard to live in America and never disappoint my mother .

I miss you my friend . I will always remember you . Love always - Shauny!

We were a young, new family in Beverly and our two children would swim at Ridge Park. Dorothy and Emmett invited us to their home for a lovely dinner to meet Ridge Park Swim Team parents. It was a warm and generous gesture and we delighted in their welcome.
They provided a fine example of neighborliness.

The Whealan Family has always held their members in loving, generous care through significant travails.

We have been blessed with their example and fortunate to be their neighbors.

We met Big Mama on a ranching holiday in Arizona some years ago while visiting from the UK with our girls. Big Mama & her beautiful family became our friends & we had the best time rangling cattle , winning trophy’s & riding out in the Rincon mountains. She very kindly opened her home to us later that year when we visited Chicago to spend Christmas with them.
Big Mama was a warm wonderful lady who had a real spirit that shone from her & could not be diminished by age.
She was a ferocious negotiator of great deals bagging us a fab suite at the Drake hotel - Big Mama you will be missed 💕
