Billy Ray York

Billy Ray York Sr., of Urbana, died on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Thursday, May 3, 1951, in Dayton to the late A.Y. and Mable Ruth York.

Aside from his loving parents, Billy is preceded in death by his son, Joseph Walter; his brother, Bobby Wright; and son in law, George Thomas “Tom” Combs.

Billy had a God given gift for working with his hands and provided for his family doing so. Throughout his working life he excelled as a mechanic, press operator, auto body restorer, and carpenter.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed being in the great outdoors. He also loved cars, especially older cars. Billy was able to make friends with anyone through his unique sense of humor and contagious smile. Above all, his greatest joy was spending time with his family, who he adored.

He is survived by his beloved wife of over 56 years, Evelyn Sue (nee: Schuler) York; his loving son and daughter, Billy Ray York Jr. (Tracy Adkins) and Mable Ruth York-Combs; his eight grandchildren, Marisa, Joey, Carolina, Danielle, Evelyn, Thomas, Steven and Shabrina; his 14 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. Billy is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2025, at Central Avenue Church of Christ (922 S. Central Avenue, Fairborn, Ohio 45324). Funeral service will be held at 12 NOON on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at the church. A burial will follow at Valley View Memorial Gardens.
