OBITUARY

Raymond G Dunn

January 18, 1931July 19, 2020

Raymond Gerald Dunn, 89, passed away, Sunday, July 19, 2020 at his home in Englewood, Ohio. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, July 22 at Burcham Tobias Funeral Home in Fairborn, Ohio, with Rev. Lee Young officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in New Carlisle, Ohio. . Ray was born on January 18, 1931 in Medina, New York to Samuel and Madeline Dunn. He married Barbara Joyce Neal on June 23, 1951. He graduated from Practical Bible College in 1952 and for the next 69 years they served together in various ministries around the world. From 1952-1955 Ray and Barb worked in California with Missionary Gospel Fellowship and then inspired by the verse found in Isaiah 6:8, “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" joined the Mission Agency Baptist Mid Missions. They served in Liberia, West Africa from 1956 to 1969. Upon their return to the U.S. in 1969, Ray and Barb (Mom and Dad) pastored several churches and continued his ministry with Baptist Mid Missions until 1990. Ray became director of Jewish Awareness Ministries in Buffalo, New York until he retired. Ray believed in the scriptures and lived a life dedicated to the words of Isaiah 6:8. But Ray also chose a Biblical verse from Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” He lived what he believed and has left a legacy of character and faith. Barb gave Ray his last Bible as a gift in January of 1977 for his birthday which bears the tattered signs of study and his deep commitment to his Lord. Every page is written on and verses underlined with comments. In the first page of the Bible, Mom wrote “A gem is not polished without rubbing; nor a man perfected without trials.” Ray then wrote, “God, help me to keep my knees on the floor and my face in this book.” Both statements epitomize the life of our father Ray, faithful husband, loving grandfather and great grandfather. Raymond is survived by his wife Barbara of Englewood, Ohio, two sons, Daniel (Tim Gregory) Dunn of Washington, DC, Timothy (Elaine) Dunn of New Carlisle, Ohio and two daughters, Cindy (Mark) Woodard of Summerville, SC and Beth Dunn of Cedar Hill, TX, 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Marvin Dunn and Milford Dunn and a sister, Vida Jane Jones. While he is missed and will be missed, Ray always spoke about his future life in Heaven where he awaits his soulmate and loving wife, Barbara.

I love Pastor and Mrs Dunn and their family! You all have blessed me in so many ways! Great preaching from God's Word during my growing up years when we all went to church and Sunday school! Mrs Dunn gave me piano lessons and I sang in a group called the Waymakers with Cindy and Mark, and Dan. Thanks so much for all you mean to me! I am praying 🙏 for you all as you celebrate the life of your Dad and miss him on this earth! I rejoice with you that he is in glory now with his Lord and Savior, Jesus!

Pastor Dunn and Barb were great friends. He was my Pastor at Faith Baptist Church in Kenton, Ohio. I remember visiting one evening when we all decided to have a cookout. We had a great time preparing for this cookout and about 11:00 P M it was all ready. It was great even if it was so late. I will count my time with Ray and Barb as one of God’s greatest blessings. Love to Barb, and all of you. Give my love and a hug to her from Terry and Sharon Bosley.

I have fond memories of Brother Ray Dunn from his years in Liberia, West Africa. I was there as an missionary kid during those years. Was friends with Dan and Tim. Such a faithful man of God. My prayers for Mrs. Dunn and family during this time.
