Richard Lee Orr
July 29, 1930 – February 19, 2018
ORR, Richard Lee, age 87 of Dayton Ohio, peacefully passed away Monday, February 19, 2018. His passing was a result of continuing issues following a significant stroke in July 2017. He was born in Plainwell, MI., but spent most of his childhood and early adult years in Ridgeville, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Leonis L. Orr; beloved wife, D. Kathryn Orr; and sons Jeffrey Orr and Richard E. Orr. Richard is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, James Orr & Vicki Cole-Orr, and John Orr and Ruth Shook-Orr; daughter Jo Zachary; and many grandchildren. Richard earned his Master’s from Purdue University. He was a Veteran, serving in the United States Army during the Korean War. He started his career with Convair in San Diego, CA, where he worked on the F-102 Delta Dagger. Desiring to move closer to family in 1960, he worked for Booze Allen as an Independent Consultant in Fairborn, OH on projects such as, high altitude frequency interference. Rather than accept a move to Chicago, IL., he then established a 30+ year career with National Cash Register in Dayton, OH as a computer programmer. Retiring in 1998, he returned to NCR as a contractor staffing their world-wide Y2K issues hotline where he would off-the-cuff quip that the phone only rang three times in as many years. Additionally, he volunteered his time upgrading and repairing computers donated to St. Vincent de Paul. He was a longtime member of St. Rita Church. In his later life, he became an avid shooter and twice a week customer at a local firearms range in order to maintain his skills. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 1pm at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens Chapel, 8200 W National Rd, New Carlisle, OH 45344. Burial will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. His family will receive friends from 12pm until the time of service Saturday at the chapel. A family gathering is being planned and will be announced soon. Contributions in Richard’s memory may be made to St. Vincent de Paul. Condolences may be expressed at www.burchamtoboiasfuneralhome.com.

Jim, John, Jo and families:
Rosalie and I were so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. Please know that you have our sympathy and we share your sorrow. Dick was a good man and was proud of his family. He will be missed by many people and made the world a better place by his family and work.
We regret not being able to attend his service and share your sorrow in person. We will be making a contribution to ST. Vincent de Paul in his name.
The past year has not been kind for you kids but rest assured you are not alone. Better days will be ahead.
Love you all.
