Bertha "Sissie" Mitchell

Bertha “Sissie” Frances (Rayhill) Mitchell, 87, of Fairdale, KY entered into Heaven Tuesday evening, March 25, 2025. Sissie passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 13, 1937 to Sam and Edith Rayhill, Sr. Sissie was a beautiful, kind, and caring person. She was always doing something for her family and friends. Sissie was known for her faith in God always being heard saying, “Smile, Jesus loves you”. Her passion was making sure everyone got along and no one, absolutely no one, left her home empty handed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 68 years, Nelson “Ray” Mitchell; daughter, Nelvina “Blondie” Mitchell Durbin; sons, Rickey Dale Mitchell, Thomas Nelson “Tommy” Mitchell; siblings, June (Doris) Rayhill, Sonny (Pat) Rayhill, Tom (Janice) Rayhill, Bub (Marie) Rayhill, George (Alice) Rayhill, Norman Rayhill, Rosie Rayhill, Johnny (Ester) Rayhill, Deloris (Delbert) Mason; sister-in-law, Brenda H. Mitchell; brothers-in-law,Thomas E. Mitchell, Charles T. Baker, Dean Snellen, John Brown, Dwight Richardson, Tim Risinger; sons-in-law, Bob Stayton, John Durbin; niece, Becky Lynn Dorton; nephews, John Brown Jr., Chuck Baker, Ernest Richardson; great niece, Michaela Walls; and many other extended family members.

Left to cherish Sissie’s memory are her daughters, Valerie Denise Mitchell Stayton, Samantha Dawn Mitchell (Carl) Brown; sister, Margaret “Birtie” Baker; brother-in-law, John Henry (Brenda) Mitchell; sisters-in-law, Jo Ann Snellen, Patsy Brown, Virgie Richardson, Brenda J. Risinger, Sherry “Kay” (Stevie) Wicker; grandchildren, Casey (Jake) Bowman , Cristie Ramsey, Wendy (George) Underwood , Edmund Doyle, Nick Durbin, Ben (Jennifer) Durbin, Sarah Nalley and Hannah Durbin, Cory (Sam), Tony, Dusty and Tabitha (Kevin) Mitchell; daughter-in-law, Bobbi Mitchell; life-long friends, Lovey (Glenn) Cantrell and Doris Rhodes. Sissie was a proud Great-Granny to 20 great grandchildren. She was also surrounded by loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, March 28, 2025 from 10am until 2:30pm at Fairdale McDaniel Funeral Home, 411 Fairdale Rd, 40118. Her funeral service is at 2:30pm in the funeral home with burial immediately following in Mitchell Hill Cemetery.

Memorial donations in Sissie’s honor should be directed to any of the following: Breast Cancer Awareness, Rett Syndrome Research Foundation (RSRF), or Jimmy Swaggart Ministries (SBN).
