Beverly T. Goodwin

August 25, 1944April 22, 2018

Beverly Glenn (Tolleson) Goodwin, 73, passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018. She was born on August 25, 1944 to Margaret Campion Tolleson and Earl Tolleson in Nashville, TN.

Beverly graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1966, and then moved to Louisville, where she began a career with the Jefferson County Public Schools that would span 44 years. She taught at Stonestreet Elementary for 8 years before spending the next 36 years at Coral Ridge Elementary, 11 years as the counselor, and 25 years as the principal. There, Beverly lovingly inspired and encouraged students and staff to be their best, which made Coral Ridge “the best kept secret in Jefferson County!” The new media center at Coral Ridge was dedicated and named the Beverly T. Goodwin Media Center. Beverly’s legacy will continue to live on because of the incredible impact she had on countless numbers of students and staff members. The Coral Ridge family will forever hold her in our hearts.

Beverly was a member of Fairdale Christian Church. She was an avid fan of the University of Louisville, and loved to garden and read. She especially enjoyed spending time with her many friends and her family, whom she loved unconditionally.

Beverly was preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, Steven Wayne Goodwin, who passed away on February 21, 2018; her mother, Margaret Tolleson; her father, Earl Tolleson; and her grandparents: James and Alta Campion, and Glen and Lillian Tolleson.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Steven Wayne Goodwin, Jr. (Stephanie); grandchildren: Tyler (Seagram) and Hannah; great-grandchildren: Trace and Sawyer; brothers: Bob Tolleson (Jane), of Bonita Springs, FL; and Tommy Tolleson, of Memphis, TN; and a great number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her dearly.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 28, from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Fairdale Christian Church, 9000 Brown Austin Rd, Fairdale, KY 40118, with a celebration of Beverly’s life to follow at 1:00 PM at the church. She will be buried in Nashville, TN.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Coral Ridge Elementary Family Resource Center, 10608 National Turnpike, Fairdale, KY 40118; or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Bob, Tommy....I am just devastated. Even though Beverly and I never got
to see each other I still considered her one of my best friends. I can
still see her in my mind and hear her making me laugh. I can't imagine
life without her and will miss her so much!

I left a phone number and an email with Nate. Please get in touch with
me when you feel like it.

I will be sending a donation to St Jude in her name.

Much, much love,

Carolyn Hodges Simpson

My deepest condolences to the family. Remember you are not alone at this difficult time. "God is our refuge and strength, a help that is readily found in times of distress." Psalm 46:1

I went to Coral Ridge as a child and I remember Mrs. Goodwin well. I remember her standing in the front hall greeting everyone as they got off the bus in the morning and again as we left in the afternoon. I remember kind words when we were upset and her being at school events encouraging us. I’m so sorry to hear of her passing. She in some way shaped that child to be the man he is today. Her memory will live on in all the lives she touched.

I am so sad to hear this. She was the principal when I was the band teacher at Coral Ridge. I had her grandson Tyler as a student. She was a true gem of a principal and an amazing person. She will be greatly missed.
