Eric was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Lorraine and Robert Garlt, Georgia Fallis, Francis and Margaret Poniatowski, and stepfather, Frederick Haagenson. Eric is survived by his devoted wife, Katie Wright; mother, Georgia Haagenson; father, Gregory Garlt (Carrie); brothers, Robert Garlt (Jacqueline) and Clayton Garlt (Ariana); sisters, Angela Doncoes (Nick) and Bryanne Garlt; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Eric was born in Chicago, IL on Jan 14th, 1975. He moved to Whittier, CA with his Mom, Brother Robert and Stepfather in 1982 and finally made his way to Louisville, KY in 1991 where at 16 years old he met his one and only true love Katie who was a fixture by his side for 33 years.
When he wasn’t doting on his beloved Nieces, Eric enjoyed taking drives in the country and spending time admiring the wonders of nature, especially Red River Gorge in Kentucky. He always attended Thunder Over Louisville – an April Family Tradition, and he enjoyed feeding the birds, shooting his guns and collecting baseball cards. Eric also loved listening to music, and was a fan of many genres, from 80s Metal, to classic country standards, to reggae and much, much more.
He was a die-hard Chicago Sports Fan and especially loved the Cubs, Bears and Blackhawks. He was always instantly recognizable in his fitted Cubs Hat and #54 Urlacher Bears Jersey, but it was his ever-present smile, sincere affection and charming disposition that won the love of everyone who was lucky enough to meet him. Eric was instantly disarming with his genuine laugh and natural good humor, and he will be missed terribly.
To celebrate and remember Eric, there will be a visitation at Fairdale-McDaniel Home in Louisville, Kentucky on Friday November 29, 2024, family only from 1-2pm and for the public from 2-8pm. Services will be held Saturday November 30, 2024 at noon. With visitation after 9am until time of service on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, which would still be kindly appreciated, folks could also make a donation in Eric's name to the Humane Society or Cancer Society of America or American Lung Association.
