From May 1942 to March 1946 he served as a military liaison officer for the US Navy to England, and France. He also served on Admiral Griffin’s staff in the North Atlantic, North Africa and the Mediterranean and he served with Admiral Nemitz in the Pacific Theater. He was a 64 year member of American Legion Post 177 and a member of Fleet Reserve Association 181 Alfred is the son of the late S. Marshall Thompson and Lucy B. (Bennett).
He is predeceased by his beautiful and loving wife, Audrey M.C. Anderson. He is survived by his sons, Glenn, John, Alfred III and Raymond (Catherine); his grandchildren, Kimberly, Matthew, Joshua, Alfred IV, David, Reagan, Wynstyn and Lawson Thompson, Deborah Visser, and Melonie Shuren; and 8 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 pm on Saturday, August 27 at Demaine Funeral Home in Fairfax.
A service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 1:30pm on Sunday, August 28 with Brother John Nichols officiating and with American Legion honors from 1:45 to 2:15. Interment with military honors will follow in Fairfax City Cemetery.
