Aloys Jean Turck

Aloys Turck, a remarkable woman whose life was defined by resilience, compassion, and a relentless pursuit of knowledge, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on October 24, 1933, in Royal Oak, Michigan, Aloys was the beloved daughter of Arthur Ellis and Aloysia Hohner. Her journey was one of dedication to her family, her profession, and her faith, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Aloys was predeceased by her cherished parents, Arthur and Aloysia, her brothers Martin and William, and her sisters Maxine and Mona. She had three children with her husband of 22 years, James Anthony Turck. She lost her dear son Mark in 2021, and is survived by her devoted children, Matthew and his wife Anneliese, and Craig and his wife Laurie. Aloys was a proud grandmother to four wonderful grandchildren: Parker, Easton, Madeleine, and Brendan, who were the light of her life and who will carry forward her legacy of kindness and strength.

Aloys's life was enriched by her deep commitment to education. After graduating from Royal Oak High School in 1952, she continued to pursue her academic passions by earning a bachelor's degree in Social Work from Wayne State University in 1978, followed by a Master's degree in Social Work in 1979. Her thirst for knowledge led her to the University of Michigan, where she received a Master's Degree in Business in 1986.

Her professional career was distinguished by her unwavering dedication to helping others. Aloys served from 1978 to 1997 as a Social Worker at Beaumont Hospital, specializing in the Rehabilitation unit's Cognitive Retraining. Her work touched the lives of countless families, teaching them how to care for loved ones with head injuries. Though she briefly ventured into private practice, her commitment to Beaumont Hospital brought her back, where she continued her service until her retirement in 2000. Aloys was a proud member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers, a testament to her professionalism and expertise.

Throughout her life, Aloys remained an active and devoted member of the Catholic Church. Her faith journey saw her serving at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, Our Lady of Refuge, St. Hugo of the Hills, and finally at St. Bernadette in Virginia. Her spiritual life was an anchor, providing strength and comfort throughout her life.

Aloys's vibrant personality extended beyond her professional and spiritual commitments. She was an avid biker and a dedicated member of Pedal Across Lower Michigan (PALM), finding joy and freedom on two wheels. Her adventurous spirit led her to travel the world, visiting places as diverse as Alaska, Calgary, Russia, Egypt, and South Africa. Her travels were a testament to her curiosity and love for discovering new cultures and experiences.

Known for her toughness and fighting spirit, Aloys faced life's challenges with remarkable courage. She bravely battled and overcame multiple life-threatening afflictions and died peacefully of old age. Her determination to accomplish everything to which she set her mind was an inspiration to all who knew her.

A memorial service to honor Aloys's extraordinary life will be held in October, 2026, at St. Hugo of the Hills Catholic Church, located at 2215 Opdyke Rd, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48304. Family, friends, and all whose lives she touched are invited to celebrate her legacy at the ceremony and at a celebration of life thereafter. Dates and locations will be posted here as soon as arrangements are made.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Aloys's memory to the Lewy Body Dementia Association Inc., to accelerate awareness and advance research for early diagnosis and improved care of an affliction she battled bravely.

Aloys Turck's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of love, service, and faith. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
