Barbara M. Heishman

Barbara Mead Heishman, 82, died Tuesday, April 26, 2016. She was born February 11, 1934 in Washington, DC, to Rachel Ellis and Hughes B. Mead. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Hugh R. Heishman, and by her children Laurie Hedgepeth (Dennis) and Scott Heishman (Jill). She is also survived by her granddaughters, Corrie Heisey (Matt), Anne Hedgepeth, Amy Hedgepeth, Catherine Heishman and Haley Heishman, and by three great-grandchildren. In addition, she leaves behind her sister-in-law Linda Heishman Munday (Eddie), a niece and three nephews, and many devoted friends. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Janice Mead and Marilyn Mead Burke. Barbara attended Fairfax High School and Mary Washington College. She was a charter member of Fairfax Presbyterian Church, and served the community as a dedicated volunteer, including many years of service to Mount Vernon. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, hospitality, consideration for others, and her loving spirit. She will be deeply missed. A visitation will be held, Sunday, May 1, 2016 from 2:00-5:00p.m. at DEMAINE FUNERAL HOME-FAIRFAX, 10565 MAIN ST., FAIRFAX, VA 22030. A Memorial Service will be held, Monday, May 2, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Fairfax Presbyterian Church, 10723 Main ST., Fairfax, VA 22030. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Barbara’s honor to George Washington’s Mount Vernon, P.O. Box 110, Mount Vernon, VA 22121.
