Betty Jane (Ross) Stein was born on May 17, 1939 in Clarksburg, WV. She was the second daughter of eight children born to the late Charles and Marie Ross. Betty attended Lost Creek High School where she met and married Johnny Thompson. She was widowed after one year of marriage. She then moved to Washington DC where she met and married Richard (Dick) Louis Stein on March 17th, 1962. They had two daughters.
The Stein Family moved to Fairfax, VA where they raised their daughters. Betty spent years as a dedicated mother and wife before returning to work part-time as a Clerk/Customer Service Rep. for both Custom Carpets and Fairfax Cleaners. When her first grandchildren were born Betty then balanced her part-time work outside the home with being a part-time babysitter to her grandsons. As she and Dick had more grandchildren their time with them became her focus.
After her husband passed, Betty eventually moved from their long-time home to several facilities for additional care. Through each new journey in her later years, Betty adjusted quickly and pleasantly and met each as a new opportunity to meet new friends; which she did.
Betty was truly a kind and loyal soul; which is why she was respected and adored by all who knew her. Betty chose to live life with a positive attitude and wore rose-colored glasses as she viewed the world and people around her. If she could chat with friends on the phone, gather with family, shop and cook, and spend time with her daughters (and sons-in-law) and grandchildren, life was perfect.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Dick of 44 years. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Darlene (and Paul) Martin of Fairfax, VA and Linda (and Ed) Kossa of Churchton, MD; five grandchildren, Michael, Colin, and Erica Kossa, Nikolas and Domanic Martin; She was preceded in death by brothers, Waymond and Ronnie; and leaves behind one brother, Bobby and three sisters, Eileen, Becky and Charlene. Betty also leaves to mourn her death a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and very dear friends. She will be missed by many.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 4, 2015 from 12:30pm to 1:00pm at Demaine Fairfax Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 1:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Fairfax City Cemetery.
