Derek was a graduate of Villanova University with a BS in finance. He was born in Long Island, New York on April 29, 1975.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to either The Derek Smeds’ Children Memorial Fund via www.gofundme.com, which will support the needs of the children during this difficult time, or in Derek’s name to the Lower Loudoun Little League, P.O. Box 23, Sterling, VA 20164. Contributions to LLLL will be dedicated to upgrading and maintaining the fields Derek cared for while serving as a coach and a member of LLLL Board. He will be laid to rest at Sterling Cemetery on West Church Road, close to the baseball fields where he made so many memories with family and friends.
