Diane Lois (Ruby) Shean, 72, of Lorton, VA, previously of New Alexandria, PA, passed away March 19, 2023, at August Healthcare at Leewood, Annandale, VA. Diane was born April 23, 1950, in Ligonier, PA the daughter of Clarence and Ann Ruby of New Alexandria, PA; devoted wife of Stephen Shean; and dedicated mother to Jason Shean (Serena Taylor) of New Alexandria, PA and Grandson Zackary Lipscomb (Nicole Tate) of Bowling Green, VA. Diane graduated in 1968 from Derry Area Senior High School, Derry, PA where she met Stephen and were married in 1970 for over 52 years. Stephen was drafted into the Army shortly before they were married and Diane joined him as they travelled to Germany where Jason was born, and then to Washington, DC.
Diane fought a courageous seven-year battle against cervical cancer while making friends along the way. Amazingly, she brought strength, unfaltering courage and hope to everyone who had the privilege of meeting her during her battle, doctors, nurses, lab technicians and fellow cancer patients alike. Diane’s daily presence will be so deeply missed and she will be forever remembered for her bravery, and teaching us all to be present in each and every cherished moment. We will hold onto her everlasting spirit and remain inspired by her. Diane was predeceased by her parents and brother-in-law William Shean (Patsy) and is survived by her husband, son and grandson as well as her dearest cousin who has been more of a sister Linda Bowman (Akella Omayajulu); sisters-in-law Janine Elliott (James), Marie Thessen, Patty Fallecker (James); and brothers-in-law George Shean and Robin Shean (Elyce).
The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the Virginia Cancer Specialists and especially her Oncologist Dr. Mitul Gandhi and his staff at their Woodbridge Office who cared for Diane for the past 7 years; the August Healthcare at Leewood, Annandale, VA who provided excellent care for Diane for the past month; and Faith Brown-Edwards and her Capital Caring Health Hospice Team who assisted in the most caring way in Diane’s final transition. Family and friends will be received from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Demaine Funeral Home, 10565 Main Street, Fairfax, VA 22030.
