Francis was born on October 15, 1946 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Dr. Joseph Ettore Imbriglia and Emmaline Ann Imbriglia (née Sweeney). The third of five children, he grew up in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania and attended St. Joseph’s Preparatory School. In 1964, he moved to Washington, D.C. to attend Georgetown University and served in the D.C. and Pennsylvania National Guard. In May 1969, Francis met and fell in love with Deena Jamitz. They were married on March 22, 1975, in Potomac, Maryland, and shared more than fifty-one years together. They had three children, Kathleen (Katie) Emmaline, Francis (Briggy) Joseph, and Amanda (Mandy) Margaret.
Francis was a man of unwavering integrity and remarkable work ethic, and he lived by both every day. He built a distinguished career in the hospitality industry, beginning as manager at Michel’s Restaurant in Bethesda, where he first met Deena, and proudly became integrated into the French restaurant community, developing his love of good food and wine. He later owned La Mancha and L’Escargot restaurants, and continued his storied career in hospitality, including as Vice President of Operations at Keystone Ski Resort in Colorado and with Guest Services dedicated to working with the U.S. National Park Services in Washington, D.C.
The same dedication and passion that shaped his career also defined his love for his family and friends. Francis was fiercely loyal, generous, and patient. Those who knew Francis will remember him as a man of integrity, humility, and quiet strength. He was a trusted confidant and steadfast source of comfort for all those he loved. He taught his children and grandchildren by example and demonstrated to them what it meant to work hard, to be honest, and to treat others with kindness and respect.
Francis savored being with his loved ones, especially spending time in Cape May, Charlottesville, Keystone, and visiting Italy. He was forever devoted to Deena and a proud father to Katie, Briggy, and Mandy. He will be deeply missed, and he will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
Francis is preceded in death by his father (Joseph), mother (Emmaline), and sister (Mary) and is survived by his wife (Deena), three children (Katie, Briggy, and Mandy), four grandchildren (Annika, Gwendolyn, Walter, and Zachary), and three brothers (Joseph, Vincent, and Stephen).
To honor and celebrate Francis, a funeral mass will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at 12 p.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Annandale, Virginia, followed by interment at Fairfax Memorial Cemetery, and a reception at Demaine Funeral Home in Fairfax, Virginia.
