With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Frank (aka Feri/Frankie), who left us in March 2025. Born in Kis Kovesd, Czechoslovakia, Frank earned his mechanical engineering degree in Kosice, where he and his wife, Silvia, started their family and became part of a close-knit community. Driven by a shared dream and deep love for their family, Frank and Silvia bravely escaped communism, journeying through Germany to ultimately build a better life in the United States.
Frank was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose kindness knew no borders. With Silvia by his side for over 50 loving years of marriage, their partnership was a testament to resilience, devotion, and teamwork. Together they overcame significant obstacles, arriving in the U.S. as refugees with little more than hope, determination, and the strength of their bond. Despite not speaking English upon arrival, Frank became an accomplished entrepreneur, founding several successful businesses through perseverance, hard work, and courage.
Known for his generosity, humor, and mischievous smile, Frank’s greatest joy was sharing moments with family and friends—talking, joking, singing, dancing, and fishing. His adventurous spirit and childlike wonder made every gathering brighter. He lived life fully, with contagious enthusiasm, leaving lasting impressions on everyone he met.
Frank was deeply involved in his community, notably as an MLS soccer referee, a familiar face at every local coffee shop, and always ready to engage in lively conversation. Beyond business, he was a self-made man who could build or repair anything, from homes to friendships. He had an insatiable curiosity about politics, culture, travel, and the wider world, yet his heart always remained close to home and family.
Frank is survived by his beloved wife, Silvia; his daughter, Andrea, and her husband, Wesley; his son, Gabriel, and his wife, Melinda; his cherished grandchildren, Aneira, Noemi, and little Gabriel, and his sister Zsuzsa. He was preceded in death by his parents, whose memories he honored throughout his life.
A celebration of Frank’s life will be held on March 22 at 1PM, at Demaine Life Celebration Center, 45511 E. Severn Way, Sterling, VA 20166. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to dedicate a bench to Frank on the lake in Reston. https://gofund.me/205b6760
Frank’s legacy of love, courage, resilience, and boundless joy will forever guide and inspire those who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit and lessons will remain alive in our hearts, stories, laughter, and the enduring bonds of family he cherished above all else.
