OBITUARY

G. Rosanne Oder

Mrs. G. Rosanne Oder, 93, of Ashburn, VA passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at Maple Grove of Ashby Ponds. She was the wife of the late Col. Lowell E. Oder for 56 years before his passing in 2007. Born Feb. 21, 1928, in Wichita, Kansas, she was one of five children of the late Ralph L. Thiry, Sr. and Gladys L. Thiry. She lived her life loving her family; husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. When she celebrated her 90th birthday everyone came from across the country to be with her.

She was raised in the Calvary Methodist Church in Wichita, Kansas. Her family was very active in the church. Her mother taught Sunday school and headed the educational area of the church. Her father was quite a carpenter and made many things for the church, some of which are still being used. She was active in the youth group and sang in the choir. Music was always a part of her life. She graduated from North High School in Wichita and attended Wichita State University.

She was a military wife, who made a home for her family of six wherever they were stationed. She and her husband raised four children, two boys and two girls. The family lived in approximately twelve different locations over a fourteen year period until finally settling in Fairfax, VA.

She enjoyed playing bridge with her husband and friends. She spent hours knitting, sewing, crocheting and creating needlework. She created many baby blankets, afghans, sweaters and clothes for her children and grandchildren. Her counted cross stitch work was displayed in an exhibit at Woodlawn in their annual needlework show in Alexandria, VA.

Rosanne is survived by daughters; Leslie Prechtel and husband, John, of Avon, NC, and Lanette Meister and husband, Jeff, of Santa Fe, NM, a son; Stephen Oder and wife, Monica, of Williamsport, MD; eight grandchildren, Abbie Prechtel Smith, Tori Oder Bakalas and her husband Alex, Tripp Prechtel, Victor Prechtel and his wife Sarah, Rosanne Oder, David Oder and his wife MacKenzie, Thomas Oder and Maddie Oder Higginson and her husband Tyler; nine great-grandchildren, Logan, Sophie, Parker, Milo, Lucy, Ethan, Isaac, Ivy and Harper.

She is also survived by her sister, Carolee Syres; her cousin Lauraine Wilson and her husband Jim. She was preceded in death by her son; Howard A. Oder and her three brothers; Ralph Thiry, Jr., Donald Thiry and Howard Thiry.

She will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery alongside her husband. Services and burial will be determined at a later date.
