George Aubrey Rice Jr., age 90, of Fairfax, Virginia peacefully passed surrounded by all who loved him on Monday February 24, 2020. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 51 years Elizabeth G. Rice, and his sister Mary Hanemann.
George was born July 26, 1929 to the late George Sr. and Mary Rice in Norfolk. He Graduated from Roosevelt High School in Washington D.C. in 1947. He attended the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore. He played trombone in the National Guard Band, and the Washington Redskins Band. George was an accomplished Jazz Pianist, and played with many bands including the Johnny Carson Roadshow. He was a beloved Piano Teacher at Capone Music Company in Annandale, VA for many years. George met his wife Betty on a blind date and soon after eloped. Together they raised 4 daughters in Washington D.C. and Fairfax. George was a very talented musician and composer, and loved his family very much.
He is survived by his daughters; Victoria (Finley) Watts, Valerie (Thomas) Hargest, Virginia (David) Rapavi, Vanessa Rice (Susannah Wood). His 9 grandchildren; Ashley (Jason) Ramirez, Alex Watts, Max Watts, Julia Watts, Collin Hargest, Christian Hargest, Charlotte Hargest, Paulina Rapavi, and Aubrey Wood. He is also survived by his nephew Eric Hanemann. George was expecting his first Great-granddaughter in April.
A funeral service for George will be held Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Demaine Funeral Home 10565 Main St. Fairfax, VA 22030, family will receive friends starting at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a favorite of George's, or to any music charity of your choice may be made.
