Obituary of Goldie Catherine O'Bannon
Goldie O’Bannon Our beautiful and courageous Mom went to be with the Lord on April 17, 2019. She is now an angel. She was born on June 12, 1939 in Haymarket, VA to the late Lloyd Stephen Hensley and Mary (Leonard) Hensley. She worked tirelessly and faithfully for the Army National Guard for over 49 years and was delighted to retire so she could devote her time to her passions of gardening, cooking and baking. She was well-known for her bountiful gardens of vegetables and flowers, her coconut cream and chocolate pies as well as her potato salad and biscuits and sausage gravy. She was also an avid country music fan, especially of Blake Shelton as well as Elvis Presley. Our Mom thought of and cared for everyone, whether human or animal, she gave to them before herself. She was caring and devoted and was as close to a saint as there ever was. She will be missed immensely. She was predeceased by, and will be gloriously reunited with, her husband, Kenneth R. O’Bannon, Sr., her sister, Virginia Yates, and brothers, Elmer, Walter, Wilmer and Robert Lee Hensley. She was the baby of the family, the last to return home to the Lord’s Kingdom. She is survived by her loving children, daughter, Lawana and son, Rick, her grandsons, Austin and RJ and her granddog, Smoochy. Our Mom is also survived by a bevy of cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends who loved, admired and adored her. The family is forever grateful for the love, prayers, kindness and tenderness shown to us during our Mom’s illness. We couldn’t have made it this far without you and the Lord. We thank you greatly. The family will receive family and friends on Sunday, April 28, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Demaine Funeral Home, 10565 Main Street, Fairfax, VA. Memorial services will be held at Demaine Funeral Home as well on Monday, April 29, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. with Minister Lake Hensley officiating. Interment will take place at Stonewall Memory Gardens, 12004 Lee Highway (29-211), Manassas, VA at 2:00 p.m. following the memorial service. Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of flowers or a donation in our Mom’s memory to a charity our Mom loved and was passionate about. Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, UT 84741-5000. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8
