Grace Elena Coburn

Gifts in memory of my mother Grace Coburn may be made to the Occidental College Women’s Club (OCWC) Endowed Scholarship Fund. As her only child, my mother felt her life change when I went to college. She joined the OCWC and met lifelong friends. They met regularly and worked on quilts, raggedy Ann dolls, and many handmade items that the OCWC sold to support their Oxy scholarship endowment. Even after moving away from California to Virginia, she and my father contributed their work to the group regularly. In her last days she finished a Raggedy Andy for the OCWC. The OCWC Endowed Scholarship Fund holds over 2 million dollars. This fund generates enough interest each year to support about $95,000.00 in scholarship money. The college selects the students, and determines the amount of each award, based on need. The OCWC Scholarship Fund has already been enriched over many years, with the embroidery handwork of Marion and Grace Coburn, being sold at our Homecoming Boutiques, Luncheons and Events.
