

James Norman Crutchfield, Jr., 80, passed away peacefully at home on August 20, 2020, surrounded by his family. He was born August 18, 1940 in Richmond, Virginia to James (Jim) Norman Crutchfield, Sr. and Eunice Goldsmith Crutchfield and was their only child. Norman grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina and attended Guilford High School before going on to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in only 3 years. It was there he met the love of his life, Ann Lucas, and they were married for 59 years. Norman is survived by his wife Ann, his son James N. Crutchfield III and his daughter Amy Crutchfield-Smith, as well as a grand-daughter, Alexis Ann Crutchfield and a grandson, Cameron James Crutchfield.
After graduating UNC, Norman worked in sales for Burroughs Corporation in Roanoke, Virginia, next for IBM Corporation in Washington, D.C., and then set out on his own to start his own company, Management Data Services Corporation which utilized the new technology of computers for billing services. After the purchase of their home in Annandale, Virginia, Norman’s interest was piqued in real estate and he went on to create Questor Realty, Inc. and enjoyed a very long career as a commercial real estate broker and investor. Ann and Norman were residents of Fairfax County for 57 years and were also members of the County Club of Fairfax. Norman was active for many years in the Rotary Club of Annandale and was a Paul Harris Fellow with Rotary International.
Norman was a private pilot, enjoyed playing golf for most of his life and playing poker with friends on a regular basis. A lover of books and a voracious reader, he also relished doing crossword puzzles daily. A lifelong fan of the Washington Redskins and ACC Basketball, Norman was also a bit of an Anglophile and always had a sharp sense of humor. Known for being a savvy businessman and a towering figure, most people who knew him well recognized that he was a gentle giant with a boisterous laugh and heart as big as he was.
Family members will honor Norman at a Memorial Service on August 28, 2020 at 3pm at the Demaine Funeral Home in Fairfax, Virginia. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the family is keeping the service small and private, however it will be available for virtual viewing via the Demaine Funeral Home Fairfax Facebook page and via the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aWtC1vn5jU.
