Obituary of Jane W Hamilton
Jane W. Hamilton was born on October 17, 1926 and passed away peacefully at her home on August 13, 2019, two months shy of her 93rd birthday. During her 2-month illness she was lovingly cared for by her 6 children and their spouses and children. Jane was predeceased by her husband William F. Hamilton, Jr. (1927-2013) and is survived by her daughters and sons, Elizabeth Foley (husband Michael), Pamela Saunders (husband Jean Bidegare), William F. Hamilton III (wife Karen), Joseph Hamilton (wife Sarah), Nadine Seaquist, and Peggy Gresham (late, husband Scott). She was grandmother to fourteen and great grandmother to three little ones. She was born in Detroit and grew up in McKeesport, Pennsylvania with her mother Grace and sisters Wilgra and Marian. Jane was an avid roller skate dancer and became a professional telephone switchboard operator before and during her marriage, and between raising six children. After her children were all in school, Jane resumed her career full-time, serving for over sixteen years as a receptionist for the Virginia State Highway Department. Having moved from McKeesport, to Chicago, to New Jersey, to Pittsburgh, Jane and her family finally settled in Fairfax, Virginia in 1958. Since then, she was a devout and active member of the St. Leo the Great parish community, and part of a close circle of volunteers and friends who counted collection money on Mondays. She was outgoing and loved to play cards and bingo and became part of a bingo-friend group who were a frequent presence at local bingo halls. She enjoyed occasional trips to Atlantic City and Charlestown, and most recently, Reno. Jane was famous for putting that one last extra helping on your plate – she was determined that no one ever go to bed or leave her house hungry or without a bag full of treats. She loved the color blue, she loved her counting and bingo buddies, she loved to play cards, she loved to eat gummy bears, and she was a jokester to the end. She was at peace that her time had come, and she bravely and lovingly gave that peace to all around her as we relinquished her to a better place.
