Sadly, her mother died shortly after Janie's birth. Subsequently, she was raised by her grandparents along with her three uncles on the family farm in Gladys,Virginia. Walking with her grandfather through the family orchard created an awareness and love for nature. Janie had a special passion for butterflies, birds, and forget-me-not flowers. She became a talented watercolor artist, seamstress, and poet. She was a loving wife and mother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Bell Farmer. She is survived by her loving son David and her daughter-in-law Margaret.
Janie lived most of her life in the city, but remained a country girl at heart.
