

Joan attended elementary school at Mount Saint Ursula in the Bronx, and graduated in 1959 from The Academy of the Sacred Heart of Mary, Park Terrace, in NYC. Joan earned a BS degree in Mathematics and Psychology from Marymount College in Tarrytown, New York in 1963 and also earned a M.Ed. in Mathematics Education in 1972 from The University of Virginia, Magna Cum Laude.
Joan was a passionate educator whose career spanned over 40 years in her home state of Virginia. She taught at Fairfax High School, Marymount Junior School, Saint John's Catholic Elementary School, Marymount University, and Nova Community College.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents Alice Quill and John Michael Quill; and her sister Ann Steers.
Joan is survived by her sisters, Alice Sweeney and Jane Alice Quill; her nephew James Steers and his wife, Susan; her niece Katharine Cirrinicione and her husband, Thomas; her niece Elizabeth Steers; her grandnieces, Deanna, Gabrielle, and Jessica Steers; and her grandnephew, Matthew Cirrinicione.
Services for Joan will be held at Saint Leo the Great Catholic Church located at 3700 Blenheim Blvd, Fairfax, VA on Monday, July 20, 2026. There will be a visitation for family and friends at 11am followed by a Mass at 12 pm. The burial will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026 at 1 PM at Gate Of Heaven Cemetery located at 20 W Stevens Ave, Hawthorne, New York 10532.
