Jon Caryl Dufresne
November 17, 1939 – August 3, 2019
Jon Caryl Dufresne, 79, of Fairfax Virginia passed away peacefully Saturday evening, August 3rd surrounded by his family.
Jon was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 17, 1939 to Caryl Alfred Dufresne and Dorothy Louise Dufresne (née Jacobson). Because Jon’s father was career military, Jon had the opportunity to live in Germany and Japan as he was growing up. He spent a short time in the army before attending and graduating from the University of Delaware with a degree in civil engineering. He then worked as a traffic engineer for Delaware Department of Transportation, City of Albuquerque and for Virginia Department of Transportation.
Jon is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janice Carolyn Dufresne, his daughter Laura (Mark), his son Jonathan (Maria) and his granddaughters Kaylee and Ella. His greatest joy since moving to Fairfax was spending time playing with Ella (Kaylee is all grown up).
Over the years, Jon has taken a great deal of pleasure in volunteering with dog rescue groups and USO. Jon was a Mason and was quite active when we lived in Culpeper. He has also made many connections with relatives in the US, Quebec and Sweden through his work with genealogy. His sense of humor and love of life will be missed by many.
A visitation will be held at Bennett Funeral Home, 14301 Ashbrook Pkwy Chesterfield, VA from 2 - 4 PM on Sunday August 11. We have chosen September 7 at 1:00 in the afternoon for our Celebration of Life service for Jon. It will take place at Providence Presbyterian Church at 9019 Little River Turnpike Fairfax, VA 22031.
The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either of the following: Wounded Warrior Project, H.A.P.P.E Pets dog rescue, or the American lung association

Janice and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I knew Jon casually, through dog rescue, but that was plenty to feel like you’d made a real connection and knew someone who cared about you and all the others around him. I hope it helps in some way to be reminded about all the people with whom he left a piece of himself. I pray for him as he makes a beautiful new journey, and I pray for you all that you will find comfort and peace and meaningful ways to keep him with you always. God bless.

Janice and family,
My heart is saddened for the loss of Jon. I was a young boy when we had visited you and Jon with my mother Gail Torgesen (Jacobson) so you may not remember me, but that trip is one of my favorite memories as a now older man. I can still see both of you in my mind, and I think my mom left a few photos of you both in an album she made for me before she passed due to cancer. You both were the sweetest people on the planet and when my mother or sister Terri would mention you I would immediately see your smiling faces, and I have nothing but wonderful thoughts towards you. I have prayed for you and family, and will continue to ask that the Lord will give you peace and healing today and in the days to come. We carry Jon in our hearts as the Lord welcomes him in His arms. Be well and thank you for your impact and imprint upon my life. Reminds us all that the little things in life can make the biggest difference in the life of another. Jon would have never known that as a young lad I needed so much to form and hold onto such memories as I grew older. A snapshot in time that carried ripples for a lifetime.

The Uncle I never had! Mr. Dufresne was the man I remember being around as I grew up. We did family vacations every year. He was always happy to see me. Showed me love and affection. I knew I counted with him. I am so very sad to hear that he is gone! Janice, Laura, Johnathan, and family, I am so very sorry for your loss. I know he is in a better place, waiting for us to join him. So sorry he left so early! What a great guy! He leaves a huge whole in our world! My prayers are with you all!

I remember back at Jonathan and Maria's wedding, when I first met lovely little Ella, Jon started trying to teach me how to dance at the reception. I was awful at it, but it was so lovely spending that time with him - it made me so happy and Ella even joined us at one point! It was such a beautiful experience and is perhaps my fondest memory of him. I will always miss Jon, and his incredible ability to light up a room with his smile and his attitude about everything in life. Such a beautiful person leaves such a positive impact on everyone around him, and he certainly did this for me. Jon will never be forgotten and all memories of him have always and will always make me smile. I love you so much Grandpa Jon, now and always!
