Mrs. Walsh was my science teacher at St. Leo's in the late 60's. She was always patient and enthusiastic, while trying to teach a class of young teenage girls. I never received an A or even a B on any assignments; however, I certainly enjoyed her class. Years later while teaching CCD and substituting briefly at St. Leo's, I spoke to Mrs. Walsh on several occasions. I recall apologizing to her for being such a horrible, inattentive student. She just laughed and replied it seemed I turned out alright. She asked me to call her Jo, but I couldn't. To me - she was always Mrs. Walsh; a rare teacher who was respected by all. A teacher who remembered and cared about her students, regardless of how much time had passed. We met again at a funeral in the early 90's for one of my classmates. Mrs. Walsh was a wonderful woman; she was encouraging and nonjudgmental. Thank you for everything Mrs. Walsh.

Mrs. Walsh left a lasting impression on me from my days at St. Leo's in the '60s.  What a remarkable woman she was.  My condences go out to her loving family.

God bless your soul, Jo... you were an exemplary teacher who exuded your Christian ideals.   I know that you are resting in peace with the faithful departed and will be rewarded for your labor of love with many hundreds of students whose faith in God and knowledge of His creation you nurtured.  Our family was blessed to have you as a neighbor for many years after your retired.

There are few instances in life where you have a teacher that leaves a lasting mark on your character forever.  Mrs. Walsh was such a teacher.  She was so special and one that I have held a great fondness for so many years later.  It was more than 30+ years that I had Mrs. Walsh as my 8th grade science teacher and I ran into her at a St. Leo function.  After all of those years, she remembered my name.  I still have my science paper that I wrote that she gave me an A+ on.  What an amazing teacher that God blessed so many of us with.

Mrs. Walsh was a neighbor and my teacher for two years at St. Leo's. One of our science classes centered on dissection of different animals...worms, fish, etc., all preserved specimens. I brought in a live toad. With it anesthesized with chloroform, I essentially performed my first surgery on an animal. Jo's contagious excitement of being able to see living and functioning organs, spread throughout the whole class and encouraged me in my bent toward veterinary medicine. Thank you, Mrs. Walsh. You blessed me and many others in our education. God bless you and bring you home.

One of the greatest privileges that I have enjoyed in my life was knowing Jo Walsh. Her kindness and her irrepressible good humor always made me feel the joy that she had in her heart for everyone. May God Bless her in a very special way for the love that she shared with so many.
