Juanita Brill

Juanita Johnson Brill, 103, of Chantilly, Virginia passed away peacefully in her home on October 15, 2023. She was born on June 19, 1920 in Judsonia, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Lindsey Johnson and Josephine Simpson Johnson, her husband Russell Frederick Brill, three brothers, and three sisters.

During World War 2, Juanita came to Washington, D.C. to work and remained after the war as an employee of the Department of Justice. She married her husband, Russell, on June 25, 1949 and they eventually settled in Silver Spring, Maryland where they lived for over 60 years.

She was very active at Calvary Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. and later at Luther Rice Baptist Church in Silver Spring, Maryland. As a stay-at-home mom, Juanita was a frequent volunteer at Montgomery Knolls Elementary school before becoming a teacher’s aide in 1969 and working with children in a variety of roles before she retired in 1988. She lived a full and exemplary life that touched many people in many different ways over her 103 years. Helping people, feeding people, and serving her Lord were her greatest joys.

Juanita is survived by her two sons, Carl Brill and his wife Joy of Germantown, Maryland, and Paul Brill and his wife Carrie of Chantilly, Virginia, six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service to celebrate Juanita’s life will be held on October 28 at Ox Hill Baptist Church located at 4101 Elmwood Street in Chantilly, Virginia. A time of visitation will begin at 12:00 and the service will follow at 1:00.

On Saturday, November 4, a second memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Judsonia, Arkansas. Visitation will begin at 12:00 with the service beginning at 1:00 followed by interment in Evergreen Cemetery.
