Born on February 5, 1951, in Reno, Nevada, Kathy was the only daughter of Hazel and Lawrence Royer. Kathy was a dedicated bookkeeper and talented fiber artist.
Kathy formed her own bookkeeping business in San Antonio, Texas, in the 1980s. She provided accounting services to a wide range of small- and medium-sized businesses in South Texas for 35 years.
While accounting paid the bills, Kathy’s true passion was for the arts. She studied design, sewing, and all forms of surface manipulation of fabric. She volunteered as a docent at the Witte Museum in the early 80s.
In the 1990s, together with friends, Kathy was part owner in Textures Gallery, an art to wear gallery in the heart of Olmos Park. There, she sold her fabric creations, which included quilts, wall hangings, and dolls. She said her goal was to create fiber art that made people smile.
She was an active member of the Fiber Artists of San Antonio group, contributing wearable art to their annual fashion show.
Kathy had a vibrant spirit and lived life to the fullest. She loved live music and travel. Kathy belonged to Unity Church of San Antonio and served as a prayer chaplain for several years during her retirement.
Kathy raised her daughter, Amanda Rayborn (Chang), with love and devotion. She was a proud and doting grandmother to Isaac Chang. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hazel and Lawrence Royer.
Kathy made lifelong bonds with her dogs and cats. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the San Antonio Humane Society in her name.
