Kathy McNulty was born in Teaneck, New Jersey, on August 1, 1956, to Ernest and Patricia Allen. She grew up in Bergenfield, New Jersey, where she attended Bergenfield High School, and met the love of her life, Dan McNulty. Kathy and Dan were married on June 12, 1982, surrounded by their family and friends.
The early years of Kathy’s marriage took her to places far from home as Dan served in the United States Marine Corps. As a military wife, Kathy embraced the life that came with each new assignment, supporting Dan throughout his service and making a home wherever they were stationed. Their years in the Marine Corps took them across the country, giving Kathy the opportunity to experience new places and adventures. It was during this time that she discovered her love of photography and skiing. Kathy and Dan skied at some of the best ski resorts in the country, and developed a true passion for spending time on the mountain with family and friends.
After Dan completed his military service, Kathy and Dan returned to Bergenfield, where they began their family. Shortly after the birth of their children, Trish and Dan McNulty, they moved to Virginia, where they made their home and raised their family.
While raising her children, Kathy returned to school and earned her undergraduate degree in Education from George Mason University, graduating with honors. She went on to become a teacher, a role that reflected her patience, kindness, and genuine love of giving back. Kathy also gave generously of her time through volunteer work, including teaching CCD and helping within her church community.
Kathy’s Catholic faith was an important part of her life and shaped the way she cared for her family and those around her. She was immensely proud of her Irish heritage, a connection she carried with her throughout her life and lovingly passed down to her children and grandchildren. Her faith, family, and Irish roots were deeply woven into who she was.
Some of Kathy’s happiest days were spent surrounded by her family at Lake Anna. She loved water sports and fishing, but what made those activities most meaningful was sharing them with the people she loved.
Kathy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dan McNulty, and her parents, Ernest and Patricia Allen.
She is survived by her two children and their spouses, Trish and Tom Neiman and Daniel and Megan McNulty; her siblings, Lawrence Allen, Kenny Allen, and Elaine Groezinger; and her six grandchildren, Finley, Jameson, and Callahan Neiman and Maeve, Maisie, and Mack McNulty.
Kathy’s greatest legacy is the family she built and the love she shared with them. She will be remembered for her warmth, her strength, her Catholic faith, her love of children, and her willingness to give her time to others. The memories she created with her children and grandchildren will remain a lasting part of their lives.
She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.
