Le Trong Pham

* Phạm Trộng Lệ, 84, peacefully passed away in his home on his favorite chair on Friday, July 22nd, 2022 due to complications from hypertensive heart disease. Born in Hà nội, Việt Nam to Phạm Trộng Thé and Dinh Thị Hoàn. Left home at a young age in search of higher education in Sàigòn, Việtnam.

* Former students Chu Văn An (Hànội), Nguyễn Trãi and Chu Văn An (Sàigòn); graduated from the University of Pedagogy, Department of English, Bachelor of Science in English from Saigon University of Literature; Certificate in TEFL/TESOL, SEAMEO/Regional English Language Center, Singapore.

* Fulbright Scholar 1973-75 Bowling Green State University (BGSU), Ohio, MA in American Studies 1975; MA in English, 1977; MS in Library Science, Catholic University of America, Washington, DC, 1986.

* Taught 2 years of English at Trịnh Hoài Đức (Bình Dương) High School, followed by 8 years of teaching at Võ Trường Toản (Sàigòn) and Hội Việt Mỹ (Sàigòn) High School, and at the same time at VAA Saigon English School, a lecturer in Translation and English Teaching. Practice at Saigon High School, and English Teaching Methodology at Tien Giang My Tho Community College.

* Followed by Fulbright scholarship, non-service doctoral fellowship of BGSU and followed by 2 years doctoral teaching fellowship, teaching English composition, medieval literature and science fiction to undergraduate students. After completing the doctoral programs, passed prelims, the topic "Cultural Interference and Its Implications to the Teaching of American Studies to Asian Students" was approved, but the thesis was not submitted.

* 1978-2003 worked as State law editor/analyst and after receiving MS in Library Science as Reference/ILL librarian at the Bureau of National Affairs, Inc. in Washington, DC. From 1994-2014, he was in charge of the Dynamic English program and the English Q&A section at Voice of America (VOA).

* Since his retirement from BNA, Le continued to pursue his love of literature and poetry. He used his free time to read books (literature, medical journals, journals, etc), listened to music (classical), read and translated poems (Vietnamese to English and vice-versa), write newspapers, travel and... eat well, drink wine and cognac with friends.

* Wrote in the Washington Post, Viet Bao (Section with Books), Vietnamese Women (California), translated some poems by Du Tu Le, Nguyen Sa, translated children's stories in Viet Tide Weekly, wrote articles on three fish. Fragrance (Virginia) and Firmament (Texas) electronic trimesters.

* Weekend drives to visit family which has expanded to include multiple cultures: Colombians, Americans, and Vietnamese. Loves to cook his specialty Beef Bourguignon or Oxtail stew.

* Survived by his two sons, Michael and Tony, Tatiana (Michael’s wife), and 3 grandchildren (Matthew, Sophia, and Isabella).

* Predeceased by his wife, Pearl Bạch Ngọc (2007), parents, and brothers.
