Obituary of Linda Arbuckle Hunter
Linda Arbuckle Hunter, 75, of Centreville, Virginia, passed away on April 12, 2024. She was born on May 6, 1948 in Evanston, Illinois, daughter of Bill Lee Arbuckle and Suzanne Elizabeth (Gentry) Arbuckle. Linda grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina and studied accounting in college. She met her future husband, Edward Hunter, in the summer of 1966, they fell madly in love, and married in 1967. After helping to put Ed through college, she took on being a Navy wife in 1969. She and Ed moved from station to station, spending extended time in Alexandria, VA, Mayport, FL, and the Tidewater area of Virginia and even was able to reconnect with her roots in Great Lakes, IL. Over these years she excelled in a variety of careers including working in an art gallery, as an accountant, real estate agent, dental assistant, and finally finishing her career doing her lifelong passion in interior design. She took on many volunteer roles including the Red Cross and Girl Scouts (taking on a position so her daughters could be in a troop), served in the church as Sunday school teacher and superintendent, Vacation Bible School, and prayer groups. Linda was dedicated to supporting those in the Navy community participating in Navy support groups and organizing fundraisers. For those who knew her, Linda was warm, welcoming, and supportive, giving her time and opening her arms to those who needed hope and love. She had a passion for entertaining (throwing legendary parties), reading (could always quote Jane Austen), and gardening in her yard. She enjoyed adventures of all kinds and even planned a vacation based on the location from a favorite book, Lake Como. Linda loved to dance and could make anyone she danced with look marvelous. Her family was the center of Linda’s life and she loved to celebrate holidays and occasions with them. She is survived by her loving husband, Edward Echerd Hunter, her daughters, Tracy Barron (Chris) and Suzanne Lewis (Dominic), her grandsons, Nicholas and Kyle, her brothers, Donald, Larry (Carolyn), and Michael, her nephew Grant who was like a grandson to her, six nephews, and three nieces. Linda will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date to be determined. A memorial service is being planned closer to the burial. Details will be updated as they are available. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to So Others Might Eat (some.org), britepaths (britepaths.org) or the American Red Cross at redcross.org.
