Mary Lue Currey was born in Clarksburg, WV on February 18, 1946, a daughter of the late Worthy “Wirt” Currey and Surelia “Sallie” Currey. In high school, she was a member of the International Order of the Rainbow Girls, a masonic youth service. She married her high school sweetheart David Scott Cobb on May, 11 1968 in Clarksburg, WV at Broad Oaks Methodist Church. Mary Lue graduated from West Virginia Business College in 1966 and worked as a secretary for Hope Natural Gas Company. She later spent time as a stay-at-home mom with her two children until she began working as an administrative assistant and as a finance secretary for Fairfax County Public Schools for over 20 years until her retirement in 2008. Mary Lue enjoyed frequent dinners with her Fairfax County co-workers following her retirement. Mary Lue proceeded to care for her four grandchildren during a 13 year span at Gran and Pop’s house until they each became elementary age.
Mary Lue Cobb was preceded in death by her father and mother, Worthy and Surelia Currey; her brother Donald Lee Currey; her brother-in-law Tyrus Cobb and nephew Tyrus Cobb; her uncles Charles Thurman Arbogast and Herman Hall Arbogast, and her aunts; Sylvia L. Gum and Mary Sinclair.
Mary Lue is survived by her husband David Cobb; her children Thaddeus Cobb and Alison Neun and her son-in-law Tim Neun; four grandchildren, Tyler Cobb, Tanner Cobb, Madison Neun and Brooklyn Neun; her sister-in-law and nephew Shirley Currey and Jeffrey Currey and wife Cathy Currey; her cousin Nancy Bice and husband Evan “Stumpie” Bice and their family; and her sister-in-laws Jeannie Cheney (Roger), Rebecca Cobb, Ellen Cobb Church (Jeff), and brother-in-law Doug Cobb (Ginger) and her many nieces and nephews.
Mary Lue enjoyed sewing and needlepoint, cooking and baking, and gardening with her husband. She was an avid sports fan, spending many days and nights in bleachers and on sidelines watching her children and grandchildren play sports. She also loved watching Mountaineer football, college basketball, and of course, NASCAR. She loved her time as an Army Band wife, listening to Dave play at countless concerts. This continued during retirement while Dave played for the Fairfax City Band. She was strong-willed, a hard worker, and a loving family member and friend. She loved her extended family and enjoying being a part of the lives of her nieces and nephews. Time with family and friends was what brought Mary Lue the most joy in life. She was a caregiver, an adoring wife, a loving mother, and Wonder Woman to her grandchildren.
