Mary was something different to each of us – a Grandmother, a mother, aunt, sister, wife, a friend. Yet, she was also the same thing to each of us: a helper, a giver. Each one of us have been helped by Mary in our lives, from financial help to prayer and everything in between. Mary has helped each one of us & will always be remembered as a giver of many things, especially a giver of love and kindness. Mary was true to her word and her beliefs, as she led by example. She shared her faith with everyone she ever met and led many people to God. Mary is indeed the reason that there are more believers today. She dedicated her life, her entire life, to putting others before herself. You always knew you could rely on Mary for prayer, comfort and support. Late at night or early in the morning, she was always there. Mary knew how to show compassion to all, she never discriminated when it came to an opportunity to help anyone in need. No questions were asked other than how she could be of help. Mary fed more than her family, and clothed more than her family – she helped friends, she helped strangers. She lived to serve others. She loved to play her piano each morning as a tribute to the Lord, she also loved to sing in nursing homes to restore happiness in the residents’ hearts. Mary was a simplistic woman yet had no restrictions when it came to helping. Mary supported various non-profits and poverty alleviation efforts, not only across America, but she also gave to global initiatives expanding all the way to Israel. She truly taught me that even one dollar does make a difference, one smile makes a difference and most importantly, prayer makes a difference. Mary was, is, and will always be my Grandma, your family member, your friend. She will forever live in our hearts and will be remembered & honored with each act of giving and each act of kindness we do for the rest of our lives. Mary’s legacy is that of compassion, kindness, forgiveness and everlasting love. I am thankful and I am proud that Mary Rene Gardner Metzinger was a part of my life and made an impact on my life. She is now able to be everywhere with me at all times, which is a dream come true because she’ll always be my #1, the best Grandma in the universe to ever exist. I plan to live the rest of my life giving in honor of her. I am grateful for the time I had with Grandma because she inspired me to be a giver of kindness, love and prayer. However Grandma may have touched your life, I hope you pass it along to others. Let her life of kindness and giving be a ripple effect for all. When times get tough and challenging, remember her favorite quote “Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly…”. When you see a butterfly, think of her. When you see a pink rose, think of her. When you smell lavender, think of her. Most importantly, when you see someone in need, think of her as you help them. Whether it be the dollar you can spare, the smile or the prayer, think of her.
