Phillip Maurice Peterson

Peterson, Phillip M., 78 Mr. Phillip M. Peterson, 78, of Springfield, Virginia, passed away July 12, 2015 at his home in Greenspring Retirement Community. A native of Newton, Iowa, he retired from the Air Force in 1976 after 21 years of decorated service, and from a second career with the Virginia Department of Taxation in 2008. He earned degrees from the University of Southern California in 1966, the University of Denver in 1969, and George Mason University in 1982. He is survived by his son David of Ainsworth, Iowa; his son Daniel and his wife, Zazae of Alberta, Canada; his son Derek of Bellingham, Washington; his daughter Deborah Koehler and her husband Walt of Ashburn, Virginia; his son Douglas and his wife Deirdre, of Cork, Ireland; the mother of his children, Barbara Hemmer, of Dover, Arkansas; and five grandchildren: Nick, Natalia, Christopher, Amanda, and Kelsey. He is also survived by his sister, Rebecca Peterson, of Iowa City, Iowa; his brother, Stephen and his wife Marion, of Bettendorf, Iowa; his brother Douglas, of Egg Harbor, Wisconsin; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 11:00am – 1:00 pm on Monday, July 20th, 2015 at Domaine Funeral Home in Fairfax, Virginia. Funeral Services will be held immediately following visitation. Interment will take place at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
