Robert Edward Daly, 64, of Centreville, VA, passed away surrounded by his wife and children, on September 23, 2026. He was born in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas on May 14, 1962. He spent his early life as an army brat, living in France, Germany, New Jersey and, finally, Springfield, Virginia. He was a Boy Scout and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. After graduating from West Springfield High School, he attended Virginia Tech, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1984. His first job was at GTE Sprint, where he met his future wife, Janet. They married at St. Leo’s Catholic Church on August 13, 1988. He spent his career working in telecommunications and defense contracting at several companies, including MCI, SAIC, Lockheed Martin, and Raytheon. He was especially proud of his early career experience in the 1990s, as PMO Field Project Engineer for the FAA Air Traffic Control System Command Center Facility Expansion Project. Most recently he worked on defense contracts in a cyber security role.
Robert was a lover of the outdoors, a star gazer, and an avid gardener. His ability to make us laugh uproariously, his optimism, warmth, handy skills and cozy backyard fires will be greatly missed. Through the decades, he cherished the companionship of the family pets, three dogs and two cats. Above all, he was a loving and devoted husband and father. He lived life with an open heart. The loss of his presence is immeasurable.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anne and Earl Daly, and daughter Meghan Daly. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Janet Daly, his children Aileen Daly and Nathan Daly, his sisters, Pamela and Debra, his brother, William, sisters-in-law Lyn, Allison, Marikay, and Suzanne, brothers-in-law Joe, Mike, and John, and a host of nieces and nephews.
