Captain Robert Emmett Mobley, of Springfield, VA, peacefully entered eternal rest at his home on March 22, 2021.

Robert was born in Ecorse, MI on September 4, 1957, as the third of four children to the late Emmett and Ruth Mobley. He was a graduate of Ecorse High School before becoming a Cadet at the United States Coast Guard Academy. While at the Coast Guard Academy, he was always found on the basketball court or cruising his blue Trans-Am.

Mrs. Mobley and all of your family: I have only known Mr. Robert from the bowling alley over the last few years, and I wanted to tell you how deeply saddened I am to learn of his passing. I know I am a complete stranger to you all, but I want to let you know that it was always such a pleasure to see him there. He was just one of the people that make life nicer with his great smile and sense of humor. I will miss the always pleasant sense of uplift that came with seeing him there. May God speed your sorrow and send you comfort. Most sincerely, Terry McWhinney

Dear Mobley Family, I only got to know Rob during the past year through bowling. He was a true gentleman and kind person. I had no idea he was a retired career Coast Guard officer, which only increases my respect for him more. I am very sorry for your loss and he will be missed. Chris Pickens

Dear Dawn, Nicole, & Chandler,
I was in the CGA class of '79 so I knew your husband and father for many years. He was a great man and a beloved member of '79. I always called him by his nickname, "Mobs." Whether I think back to cadet days, having him over for dinner in my Virginia Beach house, or seeing him around Coast Guard HQ, Mobs was always smiling, laughing, and bringing out the best in others. Although, we lost touch in the last few years; in knowing that he has passed, I can genuinely say I miss him, as I'm sure other classmates do. In no way does this compare with your loss, but please be comforted by knowing how much "Mobs" has added to so many lives. God rest his soul.
With deepest sympathy, -Kevin Cook

I knew Rob for over 34 years through our service in the Coast Guard and thereafter. I was his boss in Cleveland when he and Dawn were married, his shipmate while in Washington and also a neighbor. What I remember most about Rob was his infectious smile and laugh. You always knew Rob was present due to his size, but his comforting personality always made those around him at ease. Janet and I were blessed to know him and we will miss him. Dawn, Nichole and Chandler you have a deepest condolences and please reach out if you need anything.
