Lee Stacy peacefully went home to be with the Lord on the afternoon of February 7th, 2024 surrounded by his immediate family who were keeping vigil. He was an adoring husband, devoted father, caring grandfather and great-grandfather. Faithful, loving and hardworking.
Lee was born in Norfolk, VA on April 3rd 1922 to Robert Stacy Sr. and Margaret Jackson Stacy. Grandson to Annie Jackson. In addition to his parents and grandparents he is preceded in death by his siblings; Marjorie Forbes, Dorothy Duval, Claybourne and Charlotte.
In 1942, Lee enlisted into the Army Air Corps to serve during World War II with a B-24 squadron as an accomplished Staff Sergeant Nose Gunner. He completed two combat missions within the Asiatic-Pacific theater. He earned two Bronze Battle Stars for heroism and outstanding achievement. He was granted a Purple Heart for an injury, (for which he promptly returned claiming he wasn’t deserving). In addition, he was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and an Air Medal.
After the war he obtained his pilot's license and instructed aviation, often reminding others to “Always trust your instruments to guide you, don’t rely on what you see outside." He pioneered the beginnings of the OSS excelling in Logistics and Procurement. He traveled on assignment to places like Berlin, Hong Kong, Okinawa and Cyprus where he eventually met his wife, Louise. He returned to the States where he raised his family with four children.
Lee served 46 years with the Government before retiring. Bored, he returned to work again for another nine years, eventually retiring once more in 1993. He was a loyal member of the Silver Wings over Washington Fraternity and a member of the Logistics Retiree Association. He loved golfing, coffee, tacos, nature, the outdoors, birds and all forms of Washington sports. He could routinely be found frequenting his favorite places such as OakMarr Rec Center, St.Leo’s, Cameron’s Coffee & Chocolates, and Meadowlark Botanical Gardens where we encourage you to visit to find an Adirodack chair dedicated in his honor.
He was the beloved spouse of Louise, of 59 years. Devoted Father of Karen (Gary Mason), Douglas (Frances), Michael (Elizabeth) and Diane. Caring Grandfather of 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, (and counting), of which he had considered his most treasured gifts.
A funeral mass will be held at St.Leo’s Catholic Church in Fairfax, VA on Friday, April 5th at 11am. The interment resting place will be at Arlington National Cemetery in 2025.
