Born in Masontown, West Virginia, Bob met the love of his life Verna Mae Taylor, while he was working at a penny pitch booth at a fundraising carnival held by the Masontown Volunteer Fire Department where Bob was serving as a volunteer fire fighter. Bob graduated from Masontown HS in 1950 and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree at the University of West Virginia in 1954 and immediately thereafter, Bob and Verna were married. Shortly after graduating from UVA in 1959, Bob and Verna moved to Fairfax, Virginia with their two daughters, and he began teaching biology at the newly opened James Madison High School in Vienna, Virginia. During his retirement, Bob enjoyed travelling the country with Verna, and with a recent trip last year to Vermont, they had visited all 50 of the United States. Bob also loved spending time at the family cottage in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. He enjoyed gardening, chopping wood for the woodstove, visiting with family and friends, and spending time with his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
