

Sidney “Sid” Edward Tilling was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Sid left this world peacefully on October 27, 2021 at the age of 82. He will be truly missed in so many ways by his friends and family.
Sid was born on October 24, 1939 to the late William Thomas Tilling, Sr. and Melba Ritter Tilling in Norfolk, Virginia. He graduated from Granby High School in 1958. He went on to attend and graduate from Frederick College while simultaneously serving in the United States Coast Guard Reserves.
During his time at Frederick, he was an active member of the IMPS Fraternity and remained lifelong friends with his “brothers”. While attending Frederick, he also met and married Evelyn Joyner. They would have an only child, Theresa Tilling. He is survived by Theresa (nee Tilling) Thompson and her husband, Scott, along with three grandsons: Ryan, Grant and Eric.
He is predeceased by his wife Joanne Smith Fell, his high school sweetheart whom he reconnected with later in life. Sid and Joanne are survived by her children: daughter, Deborah Kandare; sons, Michael and Joseph Fell; and their grandchildren. He is predeceased by his older brother William T. Tilling, Jr.
Sid began his career with the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and later at the Newport News Shipyard. He retired as a Senior Engineer Technician at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Combatant Craft Division in Norfolk, Virginia.
Sid was a true waterman, husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid sailor and tennis player that loved spending time with his friends and family. Sid was wealthy beyond measure as he was surrounded by family and friends who cared deeply for him.
