Virginia J Fordham

Words are never enough to give declaration to an individual’s life, or to express the love and admiration felt for them. Nor can we adequately impart the great feeling of loss at their passing. So, it is, with our dear Friend, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt, and Sister in Christ, Virginia Fordham. And to so many of us, simply “Aunt Virginia”.

Virginia’s life was one well lived in kindness, love, gentleness, nurturing, generosity, patience, endurance, and faithfulness. She always put others above herself, and God Above All.

Virginia Lee Jones was the first of two children born to Annie and Edward Jones, her brother, Edward Caverlee Jones being born two years later. She was well taught and raised with love, as was later proved by the life she led.

She met her one and only love, Oliver Melson Fordham, whom she married in 1943. They were blessed by the birth of two sons, Oliver M. Fordham, Jr., and Wayne C. Fordham. Having moved to the Northern Virginia area in 1950, the family moved to the town of Fairfax in 1955, where Virginia remained, in the same home, until her passing.

The interim years saw the marriages of her sons – Wayne to Lynn Hardy in November 1968 and Ollie to Linda Morris in December 1968; the births of seven grandchildren, i.e., Joseph, Jennifer, Rebecca, Mark, Jeremy, Elizabeth, and Jonathan; the passing of both her dear husband, Oliver and her wonderful son, Ollie; as well as the birth of two great grandchildren, Brogan and Graecy. The Fordham family also extended to many in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as myriad “adopted by love” daughters and sons.

Throughout her life Virginia devoted much of her love, time, energy, and money to caring for as many four-legged members of God’s Creation as she could. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of Homeless Animals. Please refer to their website, foha.org.

A graveside service for Virginia will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at External Service Location, 10567 Main St, Fairfax, VA 22030.
