Warren E. Dillard
November 13, 1921 – December 9, 2019

Warren Evan Dillard, age 98, of Fairfax, VA, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 9, 2019. He was born Nov. 13, 1921 in Danville, VA to Presley H. Dillard and Mamie Ruth Elledge Dillard. He grew up in Danville and worked in the Dan River Cotton Mill until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in March of 1941. On Dec. 7, 1941, he was stationed at Schofield Barracks in Honolulu, Hawaii, when the Barracks and Pearl Harbor were attacked by the Japanese. As a result, he was awarded a bronze star and one battle star. In addition to Hawaii, he went on to serve in Australia, New Guinea, England, and France, before returning to the U.S. where he was discharged in Oct. of 1945. In Oct. of 1946, he married Velma M. Deems; they recently celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary. Following his discharge from the Army, he worked for ABWW Transit Co.; Eugene W. Zimmerman electrical contractor; and for the Fairfax County Government as an electrical inspector until his retirement in Jan. 1984. He was a long-time member of the First Church of God in Fairfax, VA, where he taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and served in the music ministry and various other capacities.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wayne and Presley Dillard Jr.; four sisters, Nelma A. Dillard, Ennis Farmer, Lorraine Carr, and Margaret Wade. He is survived by his wife, Velma; one son, Stanley W. Dillard (Lynne), of Woodbridge, VA, and one daughter, Sherry Eugenio of Henderson, NV. He was a treasured Grandpa to four grandchildren, Joseph (Courtney) and Chris (Laurie) Eugenio of Henderson, NV; Stephanie (Mark) Holden of New Holland, PA; and Bradley W. (Elizabeth) Dillard of Mooresville, NC; and to his eight great grandchildren: Kaile, McCoy, Camden, and Mia Eugenio; Hayden and Alexis Dillard; Parker and Evalynn Holden.
A viewing will take place from 6PM-8PM on Sunday, Dec. 15 at Demaine Funeral Home in Fairfax City.
Service will be Monday, Dec. 16, at 10AM at the Community Church of God in Dunn Loring with interment to follow at 2PM at Quantico National Cemetery.
