I have known Bill since we were in 1st grade together. One of life's greatest gifts is meeting someone and making a friend. Bill was a best friend who made a difference with everyone he met. I will miss him. Jeff Hagstrom

So sorry to hear of your loss. I was not only a high school classmate of Bill's, but I'm pretty sure we were teammates in the grade school football league (either 65 or 75 lb); don't remember what the league was officially called. 
I do remember Bill as always being very upbeat.

Heartfelt condolences to the Hughes' family.  The Annandale High School Class of 1974 salutes Bill as a friend and as a member of the inaugural Atoms' varsity soccer teams.  I spoke with him on the phone last year and he remained very proud of his participation on the team that played T.C. Williams for the Northern Region championship in the spring of 1974.  Our love and prayers are with you all.

To the Hughes family from the Golian family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this somber time. Bill was such a warm, friendly and dedicated Coach and Commissioner and will be sadly missed. Having the pleasure to have worked with Bill for many years at SYA Lacrosse, I witnessed first hand the impact he made on so many young lives. He helped shape the players and coaches in both lacrosse and life. His contributions will live on throughout the SYA family for many years to come. I hope you will hold dear all the great memories and treasure the time spent with Bill.

Our condolences to the entire family. Bill was the first person our daughter worked with when she first started lacrosse and he was always willing to help her out. He was a staple in the Centreville/Chantilly lacrosse community and will be missed.

Dear Hughes family. My deepest condolences on the passing of Bill.  He was a great man and friend.  I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to know Bill and work along side him for many years through SYA Lacrosse.  He worked endless hours and was truly dedicated to the boys and girls program for many years.  The lacrosse community has lost a wonderful person and he will be sorely missed.  My prayers are with you all and I know Bill is looking down on us all with that great big smile he always had. GOD BLESS.

Bill was so influential to my kids who have played and my son who still plays lacrosse. He was always so encouraging, quick to lend a caring ear and patient with excessive boy energy. He had a code word for my son, Rico who started playing when he was 5. When Bill would say “corn”Rico would know it was time to focus. My kids loved him and my husband and I did too. We will miss our sideline conversations with him. Spring season won’t be the same without him.

Bill was a really great person, coach and commissioner.  He put the success of SYA and the experience of youth boy and girl players first.  He was passionate about teaching the sport of lacrosse to any and everyone.

Bill was also a genuine and kind soul.  A gentle giant whose calm demeanor was able to de-escalate any tense situation.  You will be greatly missed Bill.  Rest in peace.  Your memory is a blessing.
