
Mr. William "Bill" Donald Hunt, 90, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2025, at his daughter’s home and surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Mary Hunt on January 20th, 1935. He received his Bachelors of Arts from St. Paul’s University in Chicago and earned his Master of Social and Industrial Relations at Loyola University Chicago.
He distinguished himself as a dedicated civil servant culminating as a Senior Human Resources Management Supervisor with the Department of Transportation. In his free time, he was an ardent jazz musician and avid supporter of the arts who enjoyed exploring the world and passionately loved to fish. He developed and maintained great friendships throughout his long and reverent life.
He grew up during The Great Depression Era in a working-class neighborhood in Chicago. He was motivated by a desire to understand the intricacies of both the historical and modern worlds and their confluence. He used his education, analytical abilities and wisdom to make a constructive difference throughout his life.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Hunt; his father Frank Hunt; his mother Mary Hunt; his brothers Raymond and Frank Hunt and his sister Irene Engel.
Bill is survived by his longtime girlfriend, Doris Bloch; his daughters Elizabeth Reger and Mary Hodge (Timothy), his son Jamie Hunt (Christina); his grandsons Paul Reger (Natalya) and Jonathan Reger; his granddaughters Frances Hunt, Britany Sulcer and Alexandra (Lexie) Hunt; his nieces Mary Townsend and Patty Engel, among numerous great grandchildren, great nieces and nephews and one great-great grandson. "A gentle man. A blessed soul. And a great patriot. We will all miss his warmth, laughter, and his love will forever remain in our hearts."
Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Demaine Funeral Home, 10565 Main St, Fairfax, VA 22030. A private family burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The World Wildlife Fund in Bill’s memory.
