Aires S. Medeiros, age 72 of Fairhaven formerly of San Jose, CA died Friday, February 10, 2012 in St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara (Simmons) Medeiros to whom he had been married for 50 years.
Born in Faial, Azores, the son of the late Egidio and Maria Jose (Simoes) Medeiros he spent most of his life in San Jose, CA and summered in Fairhaven before moving here permanently in 1999.
Mr. Medeiros was a Radio Announcer for 38 years. He spent 28 of those years in San Jose, CA working for KBRG, KRVE, KPLA and KSQQ where he had a radio show called “Sonhos de Portugal”, he then moved to Fairhaven and worked locally for WHTB where he had his show called “Saudades da Nossa Terra” on “Rádio Voz Do Emigrante” for 10 years. While living in San Jose he also worked as a Car Salesman for Courtesy Chevrolet and was the owner of Marcella’s Travel Agency.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his three children Elizabeth Hogue of Norfolk, VA, Aires J. Medeiros and Priscilla Medeiros both of Fairhaven; a grandson Joshua Hogue; eight brothers and sisters Alvarina Medeiros of Tiverton, Fernanda Oliveira, Mimi Esteves, Leodina Serpa, Egidio Medeiros, Lina Meirelles, Leonel Medeiros, and Fatima Medeiros Borba all of CA and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 11am in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT FAIRLAWN 180 Washington St., Fairhaven.
