Alfred W. Cyr

Alfred W. Cyr, age 87, of Fairhaven, died September 20, 2015 at home, surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Eileen (Honohan) with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of the late Alfred and Eleanor Cyr. He moved to Fairhaven at a young age. He was a graduate of Fairhaven High School, class of 1946. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He put out the American Flag every day weather permitting.

Mr. Cyr was a member of the Fairhaven Varsity Club for over 70 years. He retired from Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He was an avid local sports fan.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his seven daughters whom he was so proud of : Marie Murphy and husband John; Kathleen Rideout and husband Mark; Ann Cyr; Patricia Tyson; Maureen Pepin and husband Gerry; Lisa Cyr and companion Michael Gomes; Christine DeMello and husband Wayne, grandchildren: Justin, Jeremy, Adam Tyson and wife Breanna; Katelyn Carrington and husband Matthew, Tyler Rideout and wife Angela, Christopher Rideout; Brady Murphy; Connor DeMello, great-grandchildren; Benjamyn Tyson and his mother Julie Bruce; Claire and Amelia Tyson; Nora Carrington, his sisters: Eleanor O'Henley; Jean Cyr; Constance Greenway; Sister Eleanor Marie, S.S.C.C.; Rita Haskell, brother-in-law: James P. Honohan, dear family friends, Patricia Graham and Mary Staffon and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be Thursday, September 24, 2015 at 9 am from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME of MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at FAIRLAWN, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven followed by a funeral mass at 10 am at St. Joseph’s Church, 74 Spring St., Fairhaven. Burial will be in River-Side Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 4-7 pm.
