Alfred J. Vaz, age 80, of Fairhaven, formerly of Largo, FL and Rehoboth, MA, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2025 in St. Anne’s Hospital. He was the loving husband of Cheryl A. (Horton) Vaz to whom he had been married for 59 years.
Born in Boston, the son of the late Alfred J. and Helen (Bennett) Vaz, he was a graduate of Dighton Rehoboth High School, class of 1963.
Mr. Vaz was employed as a Mechanical Pipe Insulator with Local 6 in Boston for over 30 years until his retirement. He was a United States Air Force Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He was a member of American Legion Post 302 in Rehoboth, The Men’s Club in Rehoboth and the Elks Club in Attleboro.
Fred enjoyed dancing, riding his motorcycle, restoring and enjoying classic cars, and going on cruises with family and friends, especially vacations to Disney World multiple times (34), with his wife and family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two children, Jodi Durette and her husband Dennis of Attleboro and Jeffrey Vaz and his wife Carolyn of New Bedford; three granddaughters Kayla Brown and her partner David, Ashlye McMullen and her husband Taylor and Jessica Griswold and her partner Matthew; five great grandchildren Noah McMullen, Alfred Griswold-McKay, Jaxson McMullen, Emma Bemis, and Waverly McMullen; three sisters, Linda Mitchell, Kate Williams, and Wendy Kosiorek and several nieces and nephews.
His Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2025, from 2 to 4pm in the Waring-Sullivan home at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven, MA, followed by his Funeral Service at 4pm in the funeral home. The burial will be private.
