Eric was born on July 19th, 1949, to the late Charles and Anna (Ganshirt) Langenfeld of Somerville, MA, and was the fourth of nine children. He graduated from Holy Ghost Hospital School of Nursing. He was unphased by being one of few male nurses at the time. He went on to attain his RN at Mass Bay Community College. Early in his career he worked in end of life care, detox and psychiatric units. He then dedicated the latter part of his career to nursing leadership positions for drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs within the Brockton VA Hospital. He retired on his 60th birthday in 2009, proud to have been a civil servant and even happier to never have to clock into work again.
Eric loved cars. He enjoyed his annual trip to Watkins Glen for the vintage car festival. There he was surrounded by three of his favorite things: family, friends, and cars. He liked being able to lend a helping hand as a pit crew member for his friends. Though his lifelong car restoration project, the 1962 Morgan, never made it to completion, he could often be seen driving around town in his 1972 Morgan. Eric could also be spotted on daily long walks around town, chatting with neighbors along the way. He will be remembered for his love of baking by family and friends who happily received his Christmas creations. His greatest joy over the last eleven years has been to be a Papa to his two grandchildren.
Earlier this year, Eric and his wife Anna celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Eric showed unending dedication and loyalty in his relationships with friends and family. Many people would turn to him for guidance on varied topics, from medical matters to home maintenance or car shopping.
Eric is survived by his wife Anna Langenfeld, daughter Sarah Osborne and her husband Terry Osborne, son Nicholas Langenfeld and his wife Holly Langenfeld, grandchildren Tyrian Osborne and Linnea Osborne, brother Stephen Langenfeld (wife Joanne), sister Karen Stevenson (husband Ted), sister Nancy Babson (husband John), brother Thomas Langenfeld (wife Charlene), sister Susan Lynch (husband Denis), brother Joseph Langenfeld, and is predeceased by his brothers Carl Langenfeld (wife Kathy) and Paul Langenfeld (wife Barbara).
His Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2022 from 1:00 to 4:00PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Greater Boston Food Bank. For directions and to place an online tribute, please visit: www.waring-sullivan.com
