

Born in the Azores, Mr. DeMelo migrated to the United States 51 years ago. He was a former resident of Dartmouth and has lived in Fairhaven for the past 30 years. He was the son of the late Manuel and Maria (DaSilva) DeMelo.
Evaristo proudly served in the Portuguese Armed Forces. He worked at Chamberlain in New Bedford for 30 years until his retirement and in his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Nelia Harrington of Dartmouth, Norbert DeMelo and his wife Patricia of Blue Rapids, KS, George DeMelo of Sparta, NJ; a sister, Meme Espinola of Artesia, CA; 4 grandchildren, Sheri, Jordan, Sean, Alexandria, 1 great-grandchild, Seth and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John, Dennis and Basilo Mello and Elvita Gomes.
His funeral mass will be held Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 10:30 am at St John the Baptist Church, County Street, New Bedford. Visiting Hours will be held Tuesday from 5-8 pm at Waring-Sullivan Homes of Memorial Tribute Fairlawn Mortuary, 180 Washington Street, Fairhaven, MA. Burial at River-Side Cemetery, Fairhaven.
